In an odd twist, the hero in this movie is the father of a successful college student. Rodney, the king of No Respect, is a millionaire in the unfashionable field of Big and Tall men`s fashion. When his trashy trophy wife leaves him, Sir Rodney has only his intelligent son, so he comes to feel the need for education and sophistication.

He wants class, but has not attended one in years, so he donates a new wing and is instantly admitted to his son`s elite college. Rodney soon learns that his son Keith is now ignoring their ancestors` insistence upon the value of education, just as he did in the past. The future is being squandered, partly because of the way Dad simply bought his way onto campus, which has discouraged young Keith, but impressed his friend Robert.

Meanwhile, Rodney ruffles a few feathers among the faculty with his crude manners and inattention to propriety. Hijinx ensue, mostly due to Dad`s efforts to liven up campus a bit, causing most of the profs, frats and jocks to hate father, son and holy sidekick.

Rodney seems on the verge of losing everything-his status on campus, the affections of one sympathetic prof, and even his own son`s respect. He must pass a grueling oral exam to prove his academic bona fides, which will qualify him for the school diving team and give him a chance to win the championship for his soon-to-be Alma Mater.

He does pass, and qualify, and wins it all for the school, rehabilitating his own image as well as Keith`s and Robert`s. And he gets the woman, pretty professor Sally!

Trivia: cameos by Sam Kinison, older brother from Wonder Years, Timothy Stack (Parker Lewis` Father), and Edie McClurg
