Possibly the first major American release by the infamous Israeli teen exploiters, this film is notable because it is one of only three films on this website that YMP has ever seen in a theater as a new release, because it forcefully portrays the conflicted nature of psuedo-liberated young women, and mostly because the title character looks just like YMP did back in the day-it`s scary!
We`ve got a simple story here-three young guys are pretty horny, and looking for love: there`s a jock guy, a fat schemer guy, and an average dude. They try in several ways to achieve the agreed-upon goal, but fail in their initial attempts.
Our hero Lawrence, the average one, is forced to drive a ridiculous pink station wagon with a plastic Itailian chef on top to deliver his uncle`s pizzas during the day, but can use it nights and weekends when he and the buds are on the prowl. After a journey down to the Valley, or wherever, the boys stop at their usual burger joint, where Lawrence runs across the lovely Dianne, and instantly falls in love, as we romantics often do.
Meanwhile, the other two guys come to succeed in their ventures, while Lawrence, perhaps hindered by visions of his newly-beloved, never gets around to doing what he`s helped his friends accomplish.
Dianne, despite all our boy`s efforts, is more attracted to the better-looking friend, and soon gets in trouble. Steve will have nothing to do with it, so Lawrence takes it upon himself to hock his stereo and a few savings bonds to get it done, and nurse her back to health afterward.
At a party a few weeks later, Lawrence intends to give Dianne a very real token of his devotion to her, but sees her with Steve in an intimate embrace. She`s made her choice, and helpful chumps don`t seem to make the grade in this girl`s world.
Lawrence drives away from the party, but the raindrops on the windshield of his pink station wagon don`t fully mask the tears he`s shedding.
Trivia: Ms. Franklin was in a couple of other, better known FFTTMs-Better Off Dead and Bill and Ted`s excellent Adventure, making her eligible for the Ferris Hall o` Fame. Mr. Antin appeared several times on NYPD Blue, for which an old friend of YMP`s once wrote. Finally, Mr. Monoson, who could literally have been YMP`s twin at this time, is probably best known for his supporting role in Mask with none other than Cher and important FFTTM star Eric Stoltz.
