It`s a hot New York City summer, shortly after the Summer of Sam, and things are certainly heating up in Times Square. Hip late night DJ Tim has his fingers on the pulse of the streets, while Trini is the daughter of a hypocritical city official. When she refuses to go along with a publicity stunt to further Dad`s campaign to clean up the Square, she is hospitalized for mental examination-she couldn`t possibly object on rational grounds!
Robin, a hustling, foul-mouthed street kid, fakes some mental symptoms to avoid Juvenile Hall and ends up as the rich gal`s roommate. Her attitude is infectious, and they both escape to live on the streets of New York, where they come to the attention of Tim and become folk heroes to all the rockers, rebels and rejects of the City. They live the low life for a while, with hookers, street cons and strippers, live in a squat and become semi-strippers themselves.
Our girl is torn between her worried father on one hand and the increasingly wild Robin and manipulative Tim on the other. Both sides seek to use her, but for different reasons. The high wire PR game both sides have been playing begins to fall apart: time for some honesty.
Trini arranges an impromptu rally/rock concert on the Square for Robin to vent and for all the kids who came to admire them both through Tim`s broadcasts. TimesStock 1980 goes off very well, and even dear old Dad is there watching in the background with some pride as his little girl steps out on her own and makes waves. Is there a chance at reconciliation? You bet.
Rock and Roll Uber Alles!
Trivia: Trini would later acheive Satisfaction as a rocker in her own right with future Pretty Woman Julia Roberts and Justine Bateman.
