Matthew is a senior and potential state champion wrestler on a great high school team. Instead of playing it safe however, his unorthodox personal goal is to drop two weight classes and go up against the legendary undefeated Chute before they both graduate and move out of the wrestling realm. By going for it all he jeopordizes both his own and the team`s near-certain chances at their respective titles.
Add to the mix an attractive woman, stranded in town while on her way out west, whom Matt and father Ronny take in out of kindness. Linda inspires Matt in his quest, but blinds him to the affection that devoted young Daphne feels for him. As disciplined as he is in athletics, Matt is uninformed in the ways of love and passion. Nothing happens with the lovely interloper, but the desire she arouses in him is channeled into his training.
Matt faces the fierce champion in the state finals in a crucial match, with both the team`s victory and his own on the line. He falls behind early, but comes back to pin his opponent at the very last second!
Lovely Linda must leave to pursue her own dreams, but Matthew is consoled by Daphne, who now can pursue her true love without handicap. YMP and all other learned observers at this point predict that she will be successful!
Trivia: cameo by Madonna as herself singing in a bar scene. Also, there is a killer soundtrack album.
