Rob is a farm boy from upstate New York, where people love hockey, and longs for a professional career. The only way is to go North, young man, up to the Canadian semi-pro leagues and work his way from there. His previous experience as an outsider at Oxford is no help at all as our boy is badly beaten on the ice, both physically and emotionally. He must temporarily retreat and gather his faculties.
Soon after his return, Rob sees his best bud, the cunning, crafty Canadian Patrick badly injured in a game, and our American boy has a greater desire for revenge than his foreign hosts. And he makes it so! The final play in the championship game comes down to a crucial penalty shot by Rob against the enemy`s team, and he makes it!
Goooaaalll!
Rob also wins the favours of the coach`s cute daughter in the process, and their courtship causes much team friction throughout the film, but love conquers all, here and everywhere else.
