The Other Brat Pack movie.
We have here the usual suspects: a princess, a jock, a hood, a geek and a waistoid. All have committed some infraction to earn saturday morning detention at school.
At first they don`t know who they hate more, each other or the mean prinipal, who seems to have no principles. The kids soon begin to break the ice and communicate a bit, alternating between insights into each other and mutual recriminations. The fascist principal is soon clearly seen as the enemy.
Detention ends for the day, and the kids walk out of the room with a feeling of liberation, for they no longer need to hide behind their public images but can be more open and honest, at least among the now tight-knit group. Two relationships blossom out of the encounter.
Comment: Many viewers love this film, even with all the endless dialogue among the Five Angry Teens and no action-what is this, a David Mamet play? (He`s great, but not on this page!) YMP can only guess that youngsters really do want guidance and hope-he just didn`t know something this obvious would hit home for needy teens.
Trivia: Elizabeth Daily, who had small roles in No Small Affair, Valley Girl and Better Off Dead, films with major FFTTM stars in the lead, sings on the soundtrack here.
