Teen Fun/Young Ambition

Dream Date (1989) (TV Movie)

Written by Peter Crabbe, Directed by Anson "Potsie from Happy Days" Williams

Starring: Tempest Bledsoe, Clifton Davis, Kadeen Hardison, Anna Marie Johnson, Paully Shore, Richard "Bull" Martin

Tempest, the difficult middle Cosby daughter, and future failed talk show host, announces her First Date to her newly-single Dad on the day of his Fortieth Birthday, making him doubly nervous and neurotic.

(The young man in question, Kadeem, once dated Tempest`s TV sister Lisa Bonet on Different World, a Cosby spin-off, which initially featured future Oscar winner Marisa Tomei, who was replaced by Cree Summer, who has a late 1999 CD produced by Ms Bonet`s future ex-husband: musician Lenny Kravitz!)

As it happens, Dad has a date himself, and in a whacky coincidence it is with his daughter`s own guidance counselor, the fair Anne Marie! Clifton craftily connives to structure their first evening together to follow his little girl wherever the nefarious Kadeem takes her-his princess must be protected, after all!

Whacky hijinx, slapstick and a major comedy of manners ensue as a crazed Clifton tries to maintain the pretence of a real adult date while secretly following his daughter to supervise her every move.

In the end, Clifton is discovered both by Tempest and by Anne Marie and must explain himself. However, Tempest is comforted by his fatherly concern, and Anne Marie is similarly impressed by his devotion. Lastly, Kadeem, who has been a perfect gentleman all evening, likes and respects the Old Man.

How much yawanna bet that we`re on the verge of seeing this family expand greatly through marriage in the near future? Yowsa!
