A couple of Mid-Westerners, Patrick and Tracy, are heading west to pursue their dreams: he`s driving toward the slopes of the Rockies to ski with the best and she`s hitchin` a ride to there, then on to Frisco and all its cosmopolitan attractions. When they get to the snow and mountains and the decadence of the surrounding resorts, our intrepid couple know they`re not in Kansas anymore.
Sure enough, the talented new boy tears up the slopes on his first trial run, but the ski snobs` attitudes, the despair of the well-meaning burnouts and the mountain itself have chewed up and spit out many greater than he. David, leader of the burnouts, is invigorated by the energy of the new young hero, and takes him under his wing. He teaches the new guy the secrets of "hot dog" skiing, which involves not only downhill racing for speed, but fancy and dangerous stunts, flips, etc. We`re talking about extreme skiing here, several years before anyone heard of the X-Games. Slackers are so behind the times!
Just when our boy feels comfortable with the underdog ski team, his travelling companion, who`s become much more than that to him, feels neglected, and goes out with a snob. The evil European guy who stole the girl, is, in fact, Patrick`s final opponent in the ultimate ski race, which will decide, mano y mano, the fate of the two vastly different ski teams. Guess who wins both the race and the girl?
