Anthony, Uma; Uma, Anthony. Our boy is no longer the lovable geek from past cinematic exploits, but is a highly sought-after high school quarterback. Every college in the nation wants his signature on a letter of intent, but his coach, who has his own ambitions, seems to have the last say over where they both will go in the end.
All the attention and bribes from major universities begin to go to the head of our working-class hero, making him forget where he came from, and that his mission is to stay true to his family and friends, and become the first in his family to earn a college degree.
After coming to his senses, Anthony begins to mend all his broken fences with the help of his only true friend, Robert. Together they expose many of the corrupt coaches and colleges on national TV, and convince the stunning Uma to forgive the errant Anthony, and to take him back.
In the end, Anthony enters the office of the football coach of the humble, honest community college near his home and friends to beg for a second chance: he gets it.
Trivia: In a late scene, we see the evil coach chasing his car as it is being towed-sound familiar? Also, in a closing scene there is a Charlie Chaplin poster on a wall behind Robert-he would later star in a well-received Chaplin biography and earn a Best Actor nomination.
