The Pick Up Artist (1987) Twentieth Century Fox

Written and Directed by James Tobock

Starring: Molly Ringwald, Robert Downey Jr., Dennis Hopper, Harvey Keitel, Danny Aeillo, Victoria Jackson

Sir Robert is a major babe hound who`s quite content to play this game on his very own field of dreams until he meets and greets St. Molly one day on the street. As he pursues (stalks) his newly beloved, he finds out that she is also much sought after by Harvey and his mobsters.

Intrigued by this mystery woman, Robert follows her home to a Coney Island flop house, where she seems to shack up with a sick old man. When he intervenes during an assault the truth begins to come out: decrepit Dennis is Molly`s father, not her lover. The old drunk has run up incredible gambling debts with Harvey, but Molly plans to bet smarter and while sober on the same games that defeated dad in order to pay off the vig.

When she skips off to Atlantic City for one last attempt to win Dennis` way out of debt, loverboy and an experienced friend follow with dad, only to be trailed by mobster Harvey, who kidnaps Dennis, setting up the final showdown on the strip.

Molly initially wins at black jack, a safe game, but loses her stake, and seemingly her hope as well. But Robert is willing to gamble on her, and hocks his beloved vintage car, providing her with a second stake. She wins, pays to retreive the auto, redeems dad`s debt and takes him back home. End of story...or is it?

Yes, you guessed it-she comes back to Robert and decides to gamble on love! Molly learns to trust others after Robert`s generosity, which was also a new twist for him. YMP loves a heartwarming tale like this!
