Say Anything (1989) 20th Century Fox

Written and Directed by Cameron Crowe, Produced by James L. Brooks

Starring: John Cusak, Ionye Skye, John Mahoney

Set in Seattle before it was cool, our story here concerns a few recent high school graduates, in particular John, who is infatuated with the class valedictorian, Ionye. Despite winning a much-sought-after scholarship, she is fearful of the future, and he equally hates his present life.

His earnestness and goofy charm wins her over, but her Dad`s legal problems and her imminent departure for college cause her to break it off. However one is the loneliest number for each of our protagonists, and she sees him as the only source of stability in her life, while he realizes that he has nothing to lose where he is. They fly off to school together-she to study, and he to work and be with his true love while she pursues her dreams.

Trivia: cameo by Bebe Neuirth from Cheers and an occasional guest star on TV`s Frazier, where John Mahoney is a co-star.
