Better Off Dead (1985) CBS Productions

Written and Directed by "Savage" Steve Holland

Starring: John Cusak, Curtis "Booger" Armstrong, Dianne Franklin, Kim Darby, David Ogden Steirs, Amanda Wyss, Elizabeth Daily

Our old friend stretches out a bit in this daring role as a shy, talented and slightly goofy high school student who loves only two things in life: his girlfriend and skiing.

At the school ski team tryouts, he loses both his girl and his rightful place on the team, due to the new fascist coach. As he suffers the daily viscisitudes of high school and his weird family, John comes to feel that life is no longer worth the effort for him. Booger`s friendship and a few fantasy sequences calm our fearful hero, and some sight gags lighten the mood for the viewer, obviating any true suicidal tendencies.

Just as the final challenge with the evil ski coach approaches, John falls for the French foreign exchange student across the street, Dianne (the one who broke YMP`s heart in The Last American Virgin). Her affections motivate our hero beyond the wildest expectations, and he wins the ski race as well as the girl!

Trivia: Dianne and Kim would later co-star in one of those crazed- babysitter-takes-over-the-family movies for TV. Cameo by Steven Williams of 21 Jump Street and X-Files.
